AAPI Heritage Month + "Perfect Days" and the Japanese habit of celebrating the everyday

Drawing by me. hey, happy AAPI Heritage Month! I recently watched the fabulous Wim Wenders film Perfect Days, about a humble public toilet cleaner in Tokyo. On the one hand, it's a beautifully spare character study. On the other, it's a celebration of everyday life that is very typically Japanese. In this issue: My recent, life-giving school trip The beautiful meaning behind the Japanese obsession with everyday mundanity An inspiring quote about writing that will also conveniently let you off...

my recent media diet Hi there! Hope your 2024 is off to a great start. Mine began with my first ever case of COVID, broken HVAC, busted water heater, sewage leak, and roof leak, all within a month. On the flip side, I'm surrounded by love and family and books and writing...and readers like you. ^_^ I'm finally able to get back to the ole D.Y.S.E.H.K. newsletter, so I figured I'd get things started again with a sampling of my recent media diet. I'd love to hear what you've been consuming, too!...
